A record number of 270 Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) were published in the International EPD System in 2018, breaking the previous record with 85 additional registrations in a single year. Construction products were the main product category, but there were also EPDs registered for a wide range of other goods and services, including food, transport equipment and paper products.
– We have really seen a record-breaking interest for EPDs in 2018. It is great to see both new companies publishing their first EPDs with us, but also an increasing number of companies creating EPDs at a large scale using dedicated calculation tools and EPD Process Certification, says Kristian Jelse, programme manager of the International EPD System.
The new EPDs came from companies and associations in 28 different countries, with the highest number of EPDs from Italy, Turkey, Spain, France, and Sweden.
Sixteen new Product Category Rules (PCR) and sub-PCRs were published during the year, introducing the possibility to do EPDs for product categories such as textile fabrics of natural fibres and espresso coffee, and aligning with the latest European standards for product categories such as cement and insulation products.
All registered EPDs in the International EPD® System are publically-available via the database at www.environdec.com.
