Annual Report 2024
In 2024, we continued to contribute knowledge, innovation and solutions for a sustainable transition through interdisciplinary efforts and strong partnerships with industry, international research agencies and higher education institutions. We also laid the foundations for increasing our international work on global water issues by acquiring part of the Stockholm International Water Institute.
IVL Group – 2024 in figures
The 2024 financial year was marked by several positive financial results. Net sales increased by 9 percent over the previous year, and profit after tax rose by 13 percent. The surplus is being reinvested in the operations, to further strengthen our research and development, and to enable new initiatives that contribute to sustainable development.

Solutions that meet global challenges
In 2024, IVL continued to strengthen its international presence while contributing to solutions that address global challenges. We continue to focus on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 17 on partnerships.

A few highlights from 2024
During the year, our mission to drive the transition to a sustainable society has resulted in several exciting projects. Read about some of them below.

"Things need to move at a different pace for transport to contribute to climate goals"
No matter how we try to piece together the transport climate puzzle, we cannot escape the fact that we need both faster electrification and increased use of biofuels to reduce emissions - but also a shift from cars to more walking, cycling and public transport. The change is necessary and must happen quickly," says Tobias Gustavsson Binder, transport expert at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.

Urban greenery – a key to sustainable urban development
Research shows that urban environments that contain trees and vegetation make people feel calmer and happier. Greenery also improves air quality, promotes biodiversity and mitigates the effects of extreme weather events such as heavy rain and heatwaves. IVL researchers are currently involved in several research projects that are investigating the benefits of greening our cities and ways we can achieve this.

SWIC – unique testbed for circular water management
Sjöstadsverket Water Innovation Centre (SWIC) works to develop and test new technologies for water purification, as well as methods to utilise all the resources contained in wastewater. Operations at Loudden in Stockholm officially opened in April 2024.
