Water, sanitation and hygiene

Access to safe and clean water and sanitation is vital to human health and well-being. It is a key component in breaking the vicious circle of poverty, and preserving our ecosystem while creating sustainable and resilient societies for the future. Through partnerships and projects, IVL works with water governance to secure universal access to water and sanitation services.

We conduct applied research for ecologically, economically and socially sustainable growth in the business sector and the rest of society.

  • Applying benchmarking methods for emerging PFASs

    The project shall improve the understanding of the persistence, bioaccumulation and biodegradation of emerging PFAS substances. The project focuses on the water environment and mostly on sediment samples and processes. To better describe emerging PFASs, for which no analytical standards and little information exists, so called benchmarking methods shall be used.

  • Biogas production from straw, grass and reed

    The demand for biogas as a fossil-free alternative is growing, and there is a great need to explore the potential of utilising various residual and waste products. This project will contribute to this development by investigating the feasibility of using straw, roadside grass and reeds for biogas production.

  • Accelerating the transition to safe and sustainably designed materials and products

    The EU initiative IRISS aims to accelerate the transition to safe and sustainably designed materials, products and processes. The consortium forms a global network of experts and stakeholders.
