Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD)
SSbD is an EU-recommended framework for designing safer and more sustainable chemicals and materials. IVL provides evaluation, risk analysis and strategy work.
Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) is a voluntary framework developed and recommended by the European Commission. It aims to drive innovation of chemicals, materials and products towards increased safety and sustainability. The framework can be used to assess safety and sustainability performance along the entire value chain - from production and processing to use and recycling. The aim is to reduce the negative impact of chemicals, materials and products on health, climate and the environment.
IVL helps innovative companies with high sustainability ambitions to develop their own SSbD strategies in line with the framework.
Hire IVL for:
- Assessment of hazardous properties of chemicals and materials (both existing and development of new ones)
- Evaluation of health and safety risks in production and processing
- Life cycle based environmental analysis throughout the value chain, from raw material to recycling.
- Depending on the outcome of the assessment, IVL offers advice on substitution, process design or re-engineering of the innovation process in line with the SSbD framework
