REALCHEM enables cleaner transport in hard-to-electrify sectors
REALCHEM is an EU-funded research project that investigates emissions from low-carbon fuels in aviation, shipping, heavy-duty road transport and non-road mobile machinery. The project generates new knowledge on how these fuels affect air quality, human health and the climate – supporting the transition to cleaner transport.
REALCHEM investigates and develops knowledge on how low-carbon fuels perform in transport sectors that are difficult to electrify. The project combines existing data with new measurements and experiments to map emissions from different fuels and engine technologies in aviation, shipping, heavy-duty road transport and non-road mobile machinery.
The emissions are further analysed to assess their impacts on air quality, climate and human health. The aim is to provide reliable and actionable knowledge to support industry, technology developers and policymakers in choosing fuels and solutions that reduce harmful emissions.
A key part of the project is to establish a shared database on emissions from low-carbon fuels. The project also develops recommendations to advance cleaner transport solutions, contributing to the EU’s climate goals
IVL contributes with research on emissions, air quality, and environmental and health impacts, in close collaboration with the other project partners.
