HoMoSE Home, Mobility Services and Electrification

How can we build more sustainable transport systems where people live? The project Home, Mobility Services and Electrification, explores how housing-related mobility solutions – such as electric vehicle charging, shared transport and mobility agreements – can help reduce climate emissions from everyday travel in the Gothenburg region.

The City of Gothenburg has set ambitious transport-related climate targets: to reduce transport emissions by 90 percent by 2030 (compared to 2010), and to reduce motorized transport by 25 percent (compared to 2020). Reaching these goals requires major shifts in the transport system – including large-scale electrification of the vehicle fleet and more efficient, accessible mobility solutions.

This transition will affect all residents of Gothenburg and surrounding municipalities. To ensure a smooth and inclusive shift, it is crucial to consider everyday mobility needs, accessibility around residential areas, and how housing and transport systems interact.

The project Home, Mobility Services and Electrification supports this transition by exploring how the shift toward electric vehicles, mobility services, and reduced car ownership can be accelerated in the Gothenburg region. The project will focus on practical implementation and evaluation of local mobility initiatives, such as mobility agreements for new housing developments and electrification efforts by municipal housing companies like Framtiden and Mölndalsbostäder.

By collecting data through surveys, interviews and analysis of car ownership and parking provision, the project will deepen the understanding of resident needs, attitudes, and travel behavior. The aim is to identify effective strategies that promote sustainable transport habits – and to support a long-term shift toward a climate-neutral and accessible transport system in the Gothenburg region.

This project aligns with the broader European Union mission of achieving 100 climate-neutral cities by 2030, with Gothenburg as one of the selected cities.
