Hydrogen in Swedish transportation – today and 2045

Against the rapid growth of hydrogen and initiatives taking place in the area, there is a need to review the state of knowledge on hydrogen business models, and specifically production and distribution to the transport sector.

Previous projects have focused on specific parts of business models, such as revenue streams, price models or profitability, but have failed to take a holistic approach to business models that also include analyses of value creation, customer segments, relationships, and channels as well as partnerships, resources and activities required to achieve the value proposition.

The project will adopt this holistic view of business models and review the current state of business models in hydrogen. This will be followed by an analysis of the future boundary conditions that hydrogen actors may operate within and investor perspectives on the industry.

Based on these insights, two future-oriented business models for 2045 are proposed and validated with hydrogen stakeholders and investors. The project's overall purpose is to contribute to enabling the transition of the transport sector, from fossil fuels to fossil-free hydrogen.
