HiWHyV establishes Sweden’s first large-scale hydrogen valley
The hydrogen valley High Coast to West Coast consists of two hubs: High Coast and West Coast – where production, distribution and use of renewable hydrogen are being built up at commercial scale. Industry, public actors and research institutes are collaborating to demonstrate how hydrogen can support the green transition and strengthen security of supply.
HiWHyV (High Coast to West Coast Hydrogen Valley) will establish Sweden's first large-scale hydrogen valley, building and operating complete renewable hydrogen supply chains on a commercial scale in two hubs: the High Coast where large hydrogen production is emerging and the West Coast with growing industrial demand. The project revolves around 9 production nodes and two application demonstrators around which the project's 45 partners from 4 different countries collaborate to reduce emissions from heavy industry, transport and energy systems. One of the more specific goals is to produce around 4,000 tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030. The project combines technical solutions such as electrolysis, hydrogen, various electrofuels, heavy fuel cell vehicles and stationary fuel cells - with community preparedness, policy development, skills provision, knowledge dissemination and citizen dialogue.
IVL is responsible for environmental and social sustainability assessments, including climate impact, air quality, social impacts and systems perspectives. The results are used to support the development of more European Hydrogen Valleys. HiWHyV contributes to several sustainability goals by, for example, strengthening the green energy transition and resilience, reducing emissions, and creating economic growth and new jobs.
