John Rune Nielsen becomes new CEO of IVL
John Rune Nielsen has been appointed new CEO of IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Most recently he comes from the Norwegian climate and environmental research institute NILU, where he has been CEO since 2021. Prior to that, he has worked for many years in senior positions at the research institute RISE and previously SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.
John Rune Nielsen has extensive experience in the environmental and sustainability area, working with research, innovation, and business development. After 30 years at various research institutes in Sweden and Norway, he has a unique experience of collaboration between research and business in a wide range of industries. John Rune Nielsen also has a postgraduate degree in the field of energy.

His experience of business development in research and innovation issues will be an asset for IVL's continued development. It is also an advantage that he has such a broad experience of both research and consultancy, which are the two pillars on which IVL's operations rest," says IVL's Chairman Alf Engqvist.
Before joining NILU as CEO, John Rune Nielsen was Director of Research and Business Development in the group management of the research institute RISE with responsibility for strategic research, business development and RISE's research and innovation areas. He has also held several management positions in the growth of the former SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and has been instrumental in building and merging what is now RISE.
John Rune Nielsen has been active in various collaborations with IVL since the early 2000s and knows the company well. He has worked with research and innovation issues at regional, national, and international level.

John Rune Nielsen will take up the position on January 1, 2024. He succeeds Marie Fossum Strannegård, who after successful years as CEO of IVL has taken up a position as CEO of Axel Johnson's company AxSol.
