AMACE brings together knowledge on climate measures in agriculture

The AMACE project is producing a systematic evidence synthesis of climate measures in Swedish agriculture. The aim is to provide policymakers, advisors, and farmers with clear and practical knowledge about which measures deliver the greatest climate benefits while also strengthening environmental sustainability and agricultural production.

AMACE is a project funded by Formas that collects and analyses research on climate mitigation and adaptation measures in Swedish agriculture. Through a systematic evidence synthesis, the project identifies measures that can generate multiple benefits for climate, water quality, air quality, biodiversity, and soil health. Both scientific studies and policy documents are reviewed to create a comprehensive and accessible knowledge base for future climate policy and agricultural advisory services.

IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute leads the project, coordinates the work, and is responsible for the open-access AMACE database, where all evidence is compiled. Together with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and international experts, the project team will produce a database and a synthesis report to help authorities, advisors, and farmers identify measures with clear synergies, avoid trade-offs, and design policy instruments that work effectively in practice.

By identifying measures that both contribute to climate benefits and strengthen ecosystems, the project supports several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including climate action, sustainable production, and biodiversity conservation.
