Advancing industrial value chains with the SSbD framework

The project aims to develop safer and sustainable alternatives to substances of concern with flame retardant, plasticiser, and surfactant properties through the EU's Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework.

The European Commission’s safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) framework aims to support innovation processes for products that enhance wellbeing, while focusing on the protection of citizens and workers through the promotion of safety and sustainability goals during production. Its evolvement is taking place through interaction with the European industrial landscape. With this in mind, the EU-funded DESIDERATA project will test and validate the SSbD framework on several industrial use cases. The framework will be used for the development of alternatives to substances of concern (SoC), with plasticising, flame-retardant and surfactant properties. The project will advance industrial value chains by developing substitutes and using data acquired throughout the process to advise policymakers on modifying and enhancing the SSbD framework. IVL contributes in several parts of the project and is leading the development of the use cases.
