Test sites at Urban Deli and KTH – Follow our experiments

As part of the FOCUSE project we want to present the experiments that we are conducting for research purposes, but more importantly making the tests accessible to the public. As a result, this will help to spread information about urban farming and circularity for city region food systems. So come and watch live trials that compare growing methods and view real-time data on plant growth and resource use.

Throughout the duration of FOCUSE, we will conduct experiments, which will be performed in small-scale vertical farms at Urban Deli and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Firstly, Urban Deli is a concept where deli-meets-restaurant-meets-store. Furthermore, Urban Deli currently has four locations in Stockholm, with their newly opened restaurant in Hagastaden, which will host a vertical farm.
For example, the farm will host a range of fun and engaging activities that will help to spur children’s curiosity in urban farming. Additionally, The KTH Royal Institute of Technology, which is one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, and a project partner in the FOCUSE project, will also host a vertical farm that will focus on experiments for research purposes.

The vertical farms chosen for this dissemination activity are from Vegger. Vegger specializes in small scale vertical farms for interior spaces. The Vegger system is designed to produce leafy greens with efficient technology and to enrich the indoor environment.

Showcasing our work

Examples of the experiments we will showcase at Urban Deli and KTH are:

  • Advanced nutrient management
  • LED lighting optimization
  • Environmental parameter adjustments
  • Innovative substrates from urban waste

The FOCUSE project aims to explore, envision, develop, and analyse urban resource sharing for more circular-based food production in urban environments. Enabling access to and visibility of urban farming is in line with this aim. Thus, we are very excited to be able to showcase our work at the KTH and through the collaboration with Urban Deli.

Please feel free to pop by when you are in the neighbourhood!
