Increased knowledge on global mercury transport and dispersion

A global coordinated research project for long-term monitoring of changes in mercury emissions.

GMOS is an EU-funded research project where the objective is to increase the knowledge on global mercury transport and dispersion and to establish a coordinated quality assured global system of mercury measurements, modeling and emission inventories. The aim is an established long term monitoring of effects of measures on a global scale, and where measurement data provides for assessment of health effects and effects on the environment.  

The coordinated quality assured global system of measurements and modeling will allow for long-term monitoring of changes in global emissions of mercury. The project is closely linked to the ongoing UNEP negotiations on a global legally binding instrument on mercury.  

IVL participates in the project with activities related to emission inventories, by being responsible for three measurement sites, education of site managers at new measurement sites and by participating in the global coordination of measurement strategies and data management and reporting.
