Lots of activity by the FOCUSE team in Wroclaw

The FOCUSE team in Poland recently celebrated International Landscape Day, which falls on October 20th. This year, as part of the global Landscape Day, the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management organised an event titled: "Landscape Day and Geodiversity Day at the Borna Campus" under the theme "Healing the landscape".

The event attracted around 220 participants, mainly high school students, who attended lectures, workshops, and excursions. The FOCUSE team from Wrocław, consisting of Dr. habil. Alicja Krzemińska and Dr. Eng. Anna Zaręba, delivered a lecture titled "Biophilia and Ecopsychology in Urban Design" and conducted creative workshops attended by high school students from Lower Silesia. During the design workshops, which focused on the future of cities and increasing their self-sufficiency in food production, students had the opportunity to creatively design an ideal green city, using Wrocław as an example.

On October 29, 2024, another workshop of our team took place under the theme "Wrocław – a green city full of fruits and vegetables" This time, the FOCUSE team from Wrocław visited Kindergarten No. 51 "Kolorowy Początek" in Wrocław. During the workshop, three groups of young children, aged 4 and 5, drew their vision of how Wrocław should look with edible plants growing throughout the city. The children presented their designs for a greener Wrocław. The creative workshop was preceded by a 15-minute presentation in which FOCUSE team members, Dr. Eng. Anna Zaręba and Dr. Hab. Alicja Krzemińska, explained to the children how edible plants can be cultivated in urban settings.

On December 8, 2024, the FOCUSE team again visited Kindergarten No. 51 "Kolorowy Początek” in Wrocław. During the workshop titled “Wrocław - A Green City Full of Fruits and Vegetables”, the oldest preschool groups joined us in drawing their vision of Wrocław as a city where fruits, vegetables, and herbs grow. A 15-minute presentation about green cities, green architecture, and the cultivation of edible plants in urban areas preceded the creative workshop.
