IVL's environmental work
internationally
IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute works internationally to achieve the vision of a sustainable society. We share our experiences with other countries, but can also contribute to sustainable exports by selling sustainable solutions.
We collaborate with research institutes and universities, authorities, municipalities, government and private companies both in Sweden and abroad.
Despite a few years of travel restrictions and reduced mobility, IVL's international activities have remained strong. The vast majority of our assignments and projects are carried out with partners from other countries, which is crucial for making progress on major environmental and climate issues. But we can also help Swedish companies to meet local requirements for factories and products.

IVL in China
Since the start in 1986, we have gone from an operation dependant on aid to an operation participating in large research projects that receive Chinese funding. Our local offices in Beijing and Wuhan have helped environmental technology companies with about 70 full-scale installations. We are now collaborating with Swedish companies such as Scania to increase interest in biogas production and biogas buses.
Our work affects the world's most important country in meeting the climate goals. We also help local practitioners to create a better environment through waste management, water resources, transport and environmentally declared products.

IVL in India
In connection with this, IVL has now established an office in Mumbai with both Swedish and Indian staff. Getting functioning wastewater treatment on site will contribute to better health and living standards for many people in Mumbai and we are happy to be a part of that work. An important focus for IVL's development work is on the reuse of treated wastewater.
IVL has previously shown that with the right technology it can be recycled both cost-effectively and so that it becomes so clean that it can be returned to groundwater or reused in agriculture and industry. We see the importance of treating wastewater as a resource. With the right technology, the treatment plants can, in addition to providing clean reusable water, also generate biogas and nutrients that can be returned to nature.
Collaboration Agreement and Protocol (CAP)
IVL has signed Collaboration Agreement and Protocol (CAP) with KWR Water B.V., the Netherlands for Watershare. KWR is the initiator and coordinator of Watershare. Watershare is a worldwide network of water research organizations and utilities dedicated to delivering equitable water solutions for all. It bridge research to practice on pressing water sector issues through global to local collaboration. The vision of Watershare is Share knowledge, expertise and resources between global researchers, utilities, and solution providers to collaborate and implement innovations for a resilient water future and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6).
Through Watershare, IVL will gain access to a wide range of knowledge, expertise and practical resources based on solid science and of proven practical value. From IVL Side Rupali Deshmukh and Staffan Filipsson will coordinate activities and participate in watershare meetings and events.
