We have been working with air pollution issues since IVL was founded. We have a broad competence in the area including pollutant emissions and dispersion, air quality and exposure, deposition and its effects on ecosystems, as well as abatement strategies and policy instruments. IVL leads major air pollution research programmes such as Mistra's ASTA programme (http://asta.ivl.se
) and the Swedish EPA's Clean Air Research Program (www.scarp.se). This research is supported by many consultancy projects relating to emission inventories (www.smed.se), measurements and investigations.
IVL is the national air quality data host and is responsible for a large proportion of the monitoring that is undertaken at both urban and background monitoring sites in Sweden. We have advanced dispersion models at our disposal for a variety of uses, for example for EIAs.
In the transport sector, most of our work is on 'real-world' emissions measurements, emissions models and analysis of abatement measures to limit air emissions. IVL is a world leader in emissions from shipping and has been helping shipowners to evaluate different abatement technologies for air pollution for 20 years.
